July 26 is the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, designated by UNESCO.
Since May 2025, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has been implementing a five-year mangrove reforestation project in North Jakarta, Indonesia, in collaboration with World Vision Japan, an international NGO. One year since the launch of the project, mangrove planting activities, seedling management, and collaboration with local communities are steadily progressing.
This project, a collaborative venture between MMC and World Vision Japan, an international NGO, aims to contribute to environmental conservation and sustainable community development. Funded through the Mitsubishi Motors STEP Donation Program, a charitable donation initiative by Mitsubishi Motors Group employees, together with matching gifts from the company, the project plans to plant approximately 32,000 mangrove trees over five years. Through these efforts, the project aims to contribute to climate change mitigation through CO₂ absorption, biodiversity conservation, and enhanced disaster resilience in coastal areas.
Over the past year, approximately 20,800 seedlings have been planted, and the newly planted mangroves have begun taking root. Visible changes can already be seen in the landscape compared with conditions before planting, marking steady progress toward the restoration of the mangrove forest. In addition, dialogue with local residents and mangrove nursery farmers continues, while environmental education programs are being provided for children.
MMC will continue working together with local communities to nurture the mangrove forest, promote environmental conservation activities, and contribute to sustainable community development.

- Learning how to plant mangroves for the first time was a fun and unforgettable experience. Before participating in this program, I only knew about mangrove trees, but I learned a lot about the planting process and the important role mangroves play in the environment.
