On March 16, 2024, Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (MMTh), a production and sales company in Thailand, planted more than 12,000 mangrove trees on 16.57 rai (about 3 hectares) of land in Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province in cooperation with the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, as part of the third year of the “Root for Sustainability” initiative. MMTh will continue this mangrove forest maintenance activity until 2034, 10 years from now.

"Root for Sustainability” is an activity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prevent global warming, aiming to contribute to Thailand's goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 and zero emissions by 2065, while at the same time contributing to the achievement of the MMC Group's carbon neutrality goal.In addition, MMTh has been conducting social contribution activities in the three areas of education, environment, and health so as to “contribute to Thai society and grow with it,” and “Root for Sustainability” is in line with these activities.

According to DMCR, mangrove forests absorb up to 9.4 tons of CO2 per rai per year, making them an ideal tool for reduction of greenhouse gase emissions.

In addition, mangrove forests shield the Gulf region against the erosion of waves and winds, while maintaining the ecological balance of coastal areas and helping to protect the livelihood of local people and communities.

MMTh will continue to be involved in the “Root for Sustainability” project, which will enable us to increase local forests and help reduce CO2 emissions in order to lead Thailand to a sustainable environment.
