Mitsubishi Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen
Reach Agreement on
GDI Engine Technical Cooperation

January 12, 1999

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and PSA Peugeot Citroen of France, having agreed to collaborate in the field of automotive technology, on 11 January signed a contract concerning direct injection systems for gasoline engines known as Mitsubishi Motors' GDI in Japan.

The gasoline direct injection technology cultivated by Mitsubishi Motors in its GDI Engine series will assist PSA Peugeot Citroen in its research and development activities in this field.

Gasoline direct injection technology is highly effective in reducing fuel consumption, thereby enabling reductions in carbon dioxide emissions and contributing to the prevention of global warming.

The contract with PSA Peugeot Citroen marks the first step in Mitsubishi Motors' plans to make available its gasoline direct injection technology to other auto makers. Mitsubishi Motors plans to extend its collaborative relationships in the area of gasoline direct injection technology and is currently engaged in talks with a number of other parties.
