MITSUBISHI MOTORS’ Technologies Meet Drivers’ Desires to “Broaden Their Range of Activity and Take on Different Challenges”

MI-PILOT¹ driver-assistance system takes the stress out of long-distance driving on motorways and repeated stop-and-go traffic to keep drivers more comfortable and relaxed on long drives.

From early on, MITSUBISHI MOTORS began the development of driver assistance technologies that take burden off the driver and compensate for driver mistakes. We are also the first to commercialize some of the driver assistance technologies such as adaptive cruise control in the 1990s, which uses laser radar to control the distance from the vehicle ahead, and is a mainstream technology in cars today.
In addition to developing driver assistance technologies that utilize radar and cameras, we have employed our core all-wheel control technology to improve vehicle stability and deliver an optimal driving experience. We aim at reducing burden on the driver in all types of driving conditions. This unending pursuit of a safe, comfortable driving experience is the very essence of MITSUBISHI MOTORS.

One of the efforts we made is MI-PILOT driver-assistance system. Using cameras and radar, MI-PILOT controls acceleration, brakes and steering to reduce the stress of long-distance driving on motorways and in stop-and-go traffic for a safe and enjoyable drive.
We continue to support the society in which everyone is able to move about with greater comfort and peace of mind with driver-assistance technologies such as MI-PILOT.

System Configuration

  • High-performance monocular camera and radar automatically measure distance from the vehicle ahead and position of the vehicle within the white lane markings.
  • Technologically control accelerating, braking and steering.

High-performance Monocular Camera

Instantly recognizes the vehicle ahead and lane markings in 3D while measuring them with high accuracy in order to:

  • Accurately locate surrounding vehicles even in congested traffic
  • Accurately locate white lane markings and surrounding vehicles even on curves in the road
  • Quickly detect vehicles changing into your lane

This allows precise control even in congested traffic, enabling quick reactions to changing conditions.
