What is PHEV World?

PHEV World opened in December 2015 as a touring facility for visitors.
The attractions include a small planetarium, a VR experience that uses the Outlander PHEV, an information transmission touch panel, and a drink counter.
Chargers are available all day and night in the visitor parking lot, and regular chargers can be used free of charge.

Facility Information

Planetarium

This small planetarium is approximately 6 meters in diameter and is inspired by a Mongolian dwelling called a "ger.” Here, visitors can enjoy beautiful spherical screenings. Through this facility, Mitsubishi Motors, the developer of environment-friendly Outlander PHEV, has established this facility wishing ”The night sky in 100 years will be as beautiful as today's”.

This is an original work produced by Mitsubishi Motors. Enjoy the clear seas of Okinawa and the nature of Okazaki as it unfolds 360 degrees around you.

Discovering the Starry Sky of Okazaki (screening time: 24 min.)

This work is a journey through the starry sky that begins at the base of Okazaki Castle. Enjoy the seasonal constellations and commentary about space.

VR (Virtual Reality)

For the VR experience, visitors wear a special display on their head to enjoy a 360-degree view of 3D images. Reservations are not necessary. Please feel free to contact the staff if you are interested.

Virtual Starry Sky Drive(Duration: Approx. 4 min.)
Hop on the Outlander PHEV and go for a drive. Eventually, the journey will lift you from the face of the earth and take you far into space.
* The VR experience is not offered to children under the age of 13.

Touch Panel Monitor

A touch panel monitor has been installed to showcase the appeal of the Outlander PHEV. On this monitor, guests are free to watch videos about the technology of PHEVs and their use in disasters, as well as videos of rally participants.

Drink Counter

At the drink counter, we serve beverages free of charge. Feel free to spend time here with your family or friends.

  • Aichi Loop Railway
    40-minute walk to Okazaki Plant Main Gate from Kitanomasuzuka Station 

Access by Car

  • Appox. 20 minutes from Okazaki IC or Toyota IC on the Tomei Expressway
  • Approx. 15 minutes from Toyota-Minami IC or Toyota-Higashi IC on the Isewangan Expressway

The Starry Sky of Now/The Starry Sky of a Year

Take your time to gaze at the night sky with 1.2 million fixed stars projected on it, the sight that cannot be seen in a downtown. We hope that the stars will shine in the sky forever.

Ohira was born in Kawasaki in 1970. He worked on his planetarium since he was in elementary school. While studying at the university, he succeeded in developing the lens projection type planetarium which was said to be beyond the capabilities of an individual person. After joining Sony Corporation, he continued planetarium development and in 1998 he made "MEGASTAR" that projects 1.5 million stars (complete model has 1.7 million stars), what was 100 times more than of a conventional planetarium by the date. In 2004, MEGASTAR-II Cosmos acquired certificate as a Guinness World Record. In 2005 he founded Ohira Tech Ltd. He has also appeared in a television commercial for Nescafe Gold Blend. The world's first optical home planetarium series "HOMESTAR" jointly developed with SEGA TOYS is a major hit product exceeding 1.3 million units sold worldwide (as of January 2020). In addition to installations of MEGASTAR in Japan and abroad, he is actively producing events, collaborating with musicians and artists. His motto is, "Human beings can prove possible but cannot prove impossible".

Discovering the Starry Sky of Okazaki(screening time: 24 min. per season)

This is Mitsubishi Motor’s second original works directed by the planetarium creator Takayuki Ohira. Follow the constellations that represent the seasons from the base of Okazaki Castle. After enjoying the unique events and scenery that can only be experienced in Okazaki City, hop in the Outlander PHEV and go for a drive. Take a break from your daily life and think about the universe and our future under a sky scattered with stars!

Screening Content

Spring Version (Screening Period: March–May)

This screening introduces you to spring constellations such as Virgo and Boötes, you can contemplate the faraway universe as they enjoy a camping trip.

Summer Version (Screening Period: June–August)

This screening introduces you to summer constellations like Scorpius and Lyra. After taking in the fireworks display in Okazaki, under the starry sky, you can think about an exoplanet that we have yet to see.

Autumn Version (Screening Period: September–November)

This screening introduces you to fall constellations like Pegasus and Andromeda. As you see balls of light called prayer-stars that flow along the river during the autumn festival known as Okazaki Taihei no Inori, you imagine that among these countless stars, some may be home to extraterrestrial life.

Winter Version (Screening Period: December–February)

This screening introduces you to winter constellations like Orion and Canis Major. As the bells on New Year's Eve ring out the night, you wonder what the future has in store for us.
