MITSUBISHI MOTORS' Technologies Meet Drivers' Desires to "Broaden Their Range of Activity and Take on Different Challenges"
Our involvement in automobile manufacturing began with the Mitsubishi Model A in 1917. Following the end of World War II and throughout Japan’s high economic growth period, we developed technologies focused on reliability and driving performance through our work with commercial, four-wheel drive, professional-use vehicles. Over the years, we created new categories of vehicles, including the PAJERO, DELICA, and RVR, that combine the comfort of passenger cars with the excellent maneuverability of four-wheel drive vehicles, and thereby led the RV (recreational vehicle) boom of the 1980s and 1990s in Japan. In this way, we proposed lifestyles that allow families to enjoy nature through automobiles.
Meanwhile, our research and development of electric vehicles began in the 1960s, and ultimately led to the launch of the i-MiEV, the world's first mass-production electric vehicle, in 2009. Followed by that was the OUTLANDER PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV, which is the culmination of a high degree of fusion between our EV and 4WD technologies. As a result of enhancing our 4WD systems with the power of electricity, anyone can enjoy the unique driving experience of electric cars to their heart's desire. MITSUBISHI MOTORS' technologies offer lifestyles that give occupants a sense of security, safety and peace of mind while meeting the desires of drivers to "broaden their range of activity and take on different challenges."
