MARLBORO MITSUBISHI RALLIART SIGNS TOMMI MAKINEN TO DRIVE A LANCER EVOLUTION IN THE 2000 WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

Triple World Rally Champion Tommi Makinen today confirmed that he will continue to drive for the Marlboro Mitsubishi Ralliart team in 2000. The Finn, co-driven by Risto Mannisenmaki, has committed to the team for next season. Makinen currently leads the 1999 FIA World Rally Championship by ten points with four rounds remaining.

"Mitsubishi is the winning team and I want to remain a part of that", said Tommi Makinen. "The next few years will not be easy with so many new teams but I believe we can continue to win. My aim is to conquer the events I have not won and become the most successful rally driver ever with the greatest number of victories".

"I am delighted that the best driver is continuing to drive the best car in the world next year", said Marlboro Mitsubishi Ralliart Team Director Andrew Cowan. "Tommi has had a tremendous run of success with Mitsubishi Ralliart and I am sure that he will continue. It is a great honour for everyone involved with the team that a driver with such enormous talent wants to be a part of Mitsubishi’s future success".
