Czech rally driver Michal Gargulak, gave his new factory specification Group A Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI a pleasing fifth place finish on the round of the Czech national Rally Championship which finished on May 21st.

The car, which was jointly built and developed by Ralliart United Kingdom and Mellors Elliot Motorsport, performed faultlessly throughout the two day event and but for a puncture on the penultimate special stage was heading for a possible top three finish.

Ralliart’s Peter Collinson was encouraged by the result. "This was the first outing of the car and we have learned a lot", he said. "We felt that third overall was achievable but the puncture unfortunately put paid to that".

The rally was dominated by the factory Skoda Octavia WRC of Roman Kresta Roman and Jan Tomanek who finished nearly half a minute ahead of second placed Tomas Hrdinka and Karel Jiratko, with Ladislav Koeeek and Jan Kreeman rounding off the top three.

Two weeks later, Michal Gargulak and the Slovnaft Rally Team gave their Ralliart United Kingdom, Group A Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI its first win on the Kosice Rally (25/27th May), in Slovakia, a round of the FIA European coefficient 2 Rally Championship.

It was only the second event for the Mellors Elliot Motorsport prepared car which is one of the first to be built to factory specification using Ralliart Japan supplied parts.

The team had made considerable changes to the shock absorbers and suspension, which included manufacturing new anti-roll bars. In pre-event testing Michal was over two seconds a kilometre faster than his last event and this meant the team were quietly confident of a good result.

Considerable interest has been shown in the car by a number of teams in Europe, the United Kingdom and even the United States. "We have had a lot of interest shown in the car from all over the World but especially for next years British Championship and this result shows the potential of the car", said Collinson.

When asked about Mellors Elliot Motorsport, Peter was full of praise: "Chris is a consummate professional and the preparation of his cars is second to none", he said. "This is a very important project for Ralliart UK and we are delighted that Mellors Elliot are playing such an important role".
