Kenjiro Shinozuka's comments after Leg 6:

" There were a couple of fatalities today so the special stages were cut to about half of what they should have been. Anyway, soon after I started, I caught up to Schlesser but he didn't let me past. I had to wait behind him in his dust unable to get past. The route was through the sand dunes and if I had taken a risk and tried to overtake him I could
have got stuck like I did the other day so I decided to waite behind him and put up with it.
The really unfortunate thing about today, was that five people died of heatstroke. 'Unbelievable' is all you can say. I
suppose the only explanation I can think of is that 60% of the participants are beginners and that they don't know how to handle themselves in the heat of the desert. The Paris-Dakar is held in winter so the temperatures rarely get above 40 degrees centigrade, but yesterday the heat was absolutely incredible. There are sometimes fatalities on the Paris-Dakar, but I've never heard of the death due to the heat."

Kenjiro Shinozuka's comments after Leg 4:

"It was just like one of the sand holes on the Paris - Dakar; once you've fallen in, you can't move! You come over a small sand dune, the bumper drops, catches the next dune and suddenly you've stopped and can't get out of the trough. Anyway, it took a while to get out and we lost quite
a lot of time but once we were out and moving again I was able to take back some of the time loss.
Now we are 9 minutes in arrears, but in the sort of dune filled terrain we will face after tomorrow that sort of gap can disappear very quickly.
So, we are aiming to be in the lead again as soon as possible."

Kenjiro Shinozuka's comments after Leg 2 :

"The roads were narrow, the same as Leg One. Most of the course was dirt but about one tenth was asphalt. Apart from some trouble overtaking a bike that had started in front of me, I had a trouble free run.
As for Sardinia itself, it's full of wonderful natural scenery and there are lots of ancient buildings near the road, I think it is a beautiful island.
When we continue in Tunisia, I just hope I can keep this position, though.
"
