Kenjiro Shinozuka's comments after Leg 6:

" We haven't had any punctures since we entered Africa, but the course is ideally suited to Schlesser's vehicle. There were about 4 kilometers of sand dunes but then the terrain changed and there were lots of straights, flat out sections and high speed corners, all of which Schlesser excels at, so I was only able to beat him by 11 seconds, and I hear that tomorrow's course is similar to today's. The last day, the 16th, is mountain roads so what I'm aiming to do is to catch up to him as much as possible tomorrow and get a 'come from behind' win on the final day."

Kenjiro Shinozuka's comments after Leg 4:

"I attacked as hard as I could today. Gilles left about 2 minutes in front of me but I caught him about 27 km into the stage, followed him about 20 km, and then he let me past. Then, about 20 km later I got a puncture. What a let down, I was so disappointed ! It was a slow puncture. I hadn't hit any rocks so I don't know why I got the flat.

Anyway, after replacing the tyre it was "maximum attack" ! I caught and passed Gilles again, I also caught up to Saby, but he didn't let me past. In the end I made up about 6 minutes and got back to the lead, thanksfully. If I hadn't had any puncture I calculate that I would have had a lead of about 25 minutes on Schlesser by now. He never gives us an easy time. Anyway, that's three punctures I had and I don't think there will be any more. Tomorrow we are in the sand dunes and I don't see any major worries ahead."

Kenjiro Shinozuka's comments after Leg 1:
"We ran really well today. The course is narrow and twisty, but that suits the Pajero. On this sort of terrain it's definitely to our adavntage, where as if the course had lots of high speed straight sections it would be good for Schlesser. We'll find a variety of conditions between here and Morocco, but this time we are confident of victory and on this rally I want to make a step towards getting the title."
