Lancer Evolution III

Launched in February 1995, the Lancer Evolution III was brought with it better aerodynamics and engine cooling, among other improvements, to boost its competitiveness in WRC events where average speeds were increasing year by year. Lancer Evolution III came with redesigned front bumper, front side and rear airdams, as well as rear spoiler and wickerbill. The front bumper expanded openings to deliver a significant improvement in cooling engine The airdams gave ducts at either ends for improved brake and transfer case cooling. Lift was also reduced as all these elements contributed to Lancer Evolution III's spectacular body design. The 4G63 2.0L intercooled turbo engine was tweaked to lift output a further 10 PS to 270 PS by reducing exhaust pressure, increasing the diameter of the exhaust front pipe and increasing the compression ratio from 8.5 to 9.0. A new eye-catching Dandelion Yellow body color was added to the lineup and would become the Lancer Evolution trademark color. In the 1996 WRC, Mitsubishi Motors' ace-driver Tommi Mäkinen (Finland) notched up five victories from nine events and won his first drivers' championship.
