Eterna

The year after the sixth-generation Galant was launched without its Σ (sigma) variant name, the Eterna which had spawned this twin of the Galant, also appeared without the Σ variant name. Launched in October 1988, the new Eterna came with an exclusive 5-door hatchback body rather than sharing a differentiated Galant body. The intent behind its development was to cater to the changes in lifestyles as the two-day weekend became more firmly established and giving working Japanese more leisure time. Its form was developed using complex curved surfaces while maintaining plenty of interior space. The distinctive aerodynamic shape stems from the flush surface treatment used for the deeply slanted windshield. The Eterna offered excellent space utility through the use of double-action rear seats. With its hatchback body, trunk space, and multifunction rear seats, the Eterna provided great utility without sacrificing interior space.
