The company started production of Model A cars in 1917, becoming the first mass produced passenger cars in Japan. As Italy's car industry was among the most advanced in the world, Model A was designed in reference to the Fiat. By 1921 a total of 22 cars, including prototypes, had been assembled at the Kobe shipyard of Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The car on display was reconstructed in 1972 using materials of the time.
