 The company started production of Model A cars in 1917, becoming the first mass produced passenger cars in Japan. As Italy's car industry was among the most advanced in the world, Model A was designed in reference to the Fiat. By 1921 a total of 22 cars, including prototypes, had been assembled at the Kobe shipyard of Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
