Apology for the Fuso Hub Case

Today, seven former executives were arrested for suspicion of violating the Road Trucking Vehicle Law and professional negligence resulting in death, in relation to the fatal wheel detachment accident that occurred in Yokohama in January 2002. Also today, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport charged our company with falsifying documents. And we received a warning letter from the Minister.

I consider passenger and driver safety, as well as the obeisance of road and traffic safety laws, to be of critical importance to all automakers. I wish to apologize once again to the spirit of Mrs. Okamoto, who died as a result of the wheel detachment, as well as her family. Apologies go out to all others who have been affected by this tragedy as well as the general public.

We have once again received severe criticisms for problems with our quality control and the concealment of these problems. I, along with all of us at Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus, take this issue very seriously, and, bearing in mind that customers, safety and quality are top priorities, I promise to society that we will change our corporate culture and increase transparency, thereby restoring our company into an organization that everyone can trust.

Furthermore, as the investigations by authorities are continuing at this moment, we will fully and sincerely cooperate with their inquiry.

And finally, speaking on behalf of all of us, I once again humbly apologize.
