Mitsubishi Motors Statement on Hub Recall by Mitsubishi Fuso


Wilfried Porth, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC), today offered his prayers for the late Shiho Okamoto who died in January 2002 when she was struck by a wheel that fell off a Mitsubishi Fuso heavy-duty truck in Yokohama, Japan. He also apologized to the bereaved family on behalf of the company.

MFTBC was the truck and bus division of MMC until it was spun off in January 2003, and therefore, MMC also extends its prayers for Mrs. Okamoto and sincerely apologizes to the bereaved family for this tragic accident. MMC also wishes to apologize to the public for concerns surrounding road safety issues that arose due to the accident.

Together with MFTBC, MMC will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate the cause of this accident.

Since 2000, MMC has worked to strengthen its internal auditing, improve its system for processing claims, and revamp its development and production processes to ensure the company operates to the highest standards in terms of internal checks and inter-departmental communication.
