Mitsubishi Motors Corporation
(MMC), originally part of Mitsubishi Heavy
Industries, became an independent company
in 1970. It is one of the newest car manufacturers
in Japan.
However, MMC has a history of making the Mitsubishi
Model A, the first Japanese mass production
vehicle, in 1917.
MMC made about 1,320,000 vehicles in 2006,
and now sells its vehicles in Japan and around
the world. |

Why does the Mitsubishi Logo look like this?

 |
| The Mitsubishi Group
of companies started over 100 years ago during
the Meiji Period (1867-1912). The Mitsubishi
logo came from the Tosa region (today the
region is called Kochi Prefecture), and is
actually a combination of the Three Oak Leaves
family crest of the Yamauchi Family of the
Tosa Clan, and the Three Diamonds family crest
of a samurai named Yataro Iwasaki. The present
form of the Mitsubishi logo was first used
in 1910, the 43rd year of the Meiji Period. |
